Requirements for Artwork:
We use Apple Macs with the following software packages and can accept artwork that is produced with these applications:-
QuarkXpress - Adobe Indesign - Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop - Adobe Acrobat
Artwork produced in any other programs must be saved as:-
PDF (press quality and fonts embedded) - EPS (spot colour)
Multiple colour jobs should be created using spot colour rather than process colour mode where this is available. Make sure that the number of colours is correct - ie only two colours print out for a 2 colour job.
Include All The Fonts and Graphics
When sending us a QuarkXpress document be sure that all graphic/support files are included. If you modify any of your support files, update them in the document and check to make sure they have not changed position. Use the QuarkXPress "Collect for Output" feature to ensure all page elements (images and fonts) are captured and included.
Convert Text
Fonts that are used in EPS graphics need to be included with your job. Some layout programs might not list these fonts as missing, therefore your job won't print correctly. Certain graphic programs like Adobe Illustrator provide the options to convert fonts to outlines. This avoids the need for supplying the fonts.
File Formats:
The following is a list of file types and extensions that should be used when saving graphics for printing:
EPS - Encapsulated PostScript
TIF or TIFF - Tagged-Image File Format
TIPS
- Type/Fonts PostScript Type1 fonts are preferred; OpenType are also acceptable.
- Do not use menu-style fonts to plain fonts (i.e., by selecting Italic or Bold in the style menu). Use the font variation instead.
- Save all Illustrator files in EPS format.
- To avoid font issues with EPS files, consider converting your EPS file's fonts to outlines.
- Safety Area: Keep all text and elements at least one quarter inch within the trim.
- Ensure that all Photoshop files are a minimum of 300 dpi at 100% of final placement size (600ppi if text elements are embedded.)
- Please check that all artwork outputs the correct spot colour separations before sending, as this will help us to process your job more quickly.
Please Note:
Any amendments/production work not specifically discussed and agreed upon in the original contract will be charged for as an additional and separate cost. This may include rework of Quark files for documents submitted that do not meet the mechanical specifications (above), work to convert CMYK to spot or special colors (unless with prior agreement) or rework on graphics files that do not meet our printing parameters.
